Malta-headquartered energy and commodity trading house Alkagesta has been awarded the EcoVadis Committed Badge, one of the most widely recognised ratings for corporate sustainability performance. The badge signals that the company meets EcoVadis' threshold standards across its operations and has committed to a programme of continued improvement.
EcoVadis assesses businesses across four pillars — environment, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement — using documentary evidence rather than self-declared claims. Companies are scored against internationally recognised frameworks, and the resulting scorecard is used by trading partners around the world when evaluating counterparties. For a trading house whose counterparties span fertilizers, petroleum products and biofuels across dozens of countries, that external validation carries commercial weight.
The badge builds on the commitments already set out in Alkagesta's ESG framework, which covers how the company manages environmental impact, governance and responsible sourcing across its trading and shipping activities.
It also lands shortly after the publication of the company's 2025 ESG report, which consolidated disclosure of its environmental and social performance and gave counterparties a single reference point for how Alkagesta runs compliance-heavy trade flows.
The recognition sits alongside the company's wider sustainability credentials, including ISCC and CORSIA certification covering its sustainable aviation fuel trading, participation in EU ETS carbon allowance markets, and support for environmental research initiatives such as the Clean Caspian project.
Orkhan Rustamov, chief executive of Alkagesta, said the badge reflects work being done across the company to embed responsible business practice into daily operations rather than treating it as a separate agenda. He added that, as a company trading commodities at the heart of the global economy, Alkagesta takes its responsibility to operate with integrity and transparency seriously, and views the badge as a foundation to keep raising standards in the areas EcoVadis measures.
For Alkagesta and its counterparties, the practical meaning of the Committed Badge is straightforward: sustainability performance is now part of counterparty assessment across the physical commodity chain, and independent scoring frameworks such as EcoVadis give both sides a common benchmark for it.
