Alkagesta, a trading company headquartered in Malta, has expanded its operations in Romania to encompass sustainable biodiesel trade, according to Capital.ro. The company, which operates in over 40 countries, has maintained a long-term presence in Romania and is now focusing on the country's energy transition.
Capital.ro stated that Alkagesta has already completed several pilot sales of EN 14214 (FAME 01) biodiesel, adhering to both EU standards and Romanian market requirements. This move highlights the company's global growth strategy in biofuels and Romania's potential as a key player in Europe's renewable energy supply chain.
The publication noted that Alkagesta is registered with the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) system. Its biofuel operations comply with strict criteria for transparency, traceability, and sustainability, as well as the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED III).
Orkhan Rustamov, CEO of Alkagesta, was quoted by Capital.ro as stating that Romania possesses the necessary position and resources to become a regional green energy hub. He added that the company's entry into this market aims to supply cleaner fuel and strengthen Romania's role in Europe's energy transition.
Since its establishment in 2018, Alkagesta has formed partnerships with 28 international banks, expanded into 42 countries, and facilitated annual trade flows exceeding 7 million metric tonnes of commodities, Capital.ro reported. The company also manages an extensive logistics network with access to over 700,000 cubic metres of storage capacity across Europe and Asia.
