Alkagesta has established a new biofuels trading desk in Geneva, Switzerland, as reported by PR Newswire. This initiative is intended to enhance the company's European operations and its dedication to the worldwide energy transition. The move leverages Geneva's established role as a significant international commodity trading hub.
The company's objective is to contribute to the expanding market for sustainable fuels. PR Newswire states that Europe is transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable and low-carbon alternatives. The European biofuels market is projected to reach nearly $59 billion by 2030, with an 11% compound annual growth rate, according to Grand View Research.
Within this market, the European biodiesel segment was estimated at $19.5 billion in 2024 and is expected to exceed $32 billion by 2033, as per IMARC Group data cited by PR Newswire. Globally, the biofuels sector was approximately $99.5 billion in 2023 and is forecast to surpass $200 billion by 2030, according to Grand View Research.
Alkagesta aims to utilise Geneva's ecosystem, which includes trade finance, legal expertise, risk management, insurance, and logistics services.
