The Everllence B&W G80 ethanol-capable engine, described as the first of its kind, has undergone successful research and development testing. This significant milestone took place at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Engine and Machinery division located in Korea.

The engine is designated for installation on the third vessel within a series of ten Very Large Ore Carriers. These VLOCs were commissioned by Shandong Shipping and are intended for chartering services to Vale, a Brazilian mining and logistics company.

The specific vessel that will receive this engine is anticipated to be delivered in early 2027. An Everllence representative noted that the completion of these tests represents a major achievement for the G80 engine series.

This development highlights progress in alternative fuel technologies for large bulk carriers, aligning with industry efforts to explore new marine fuel options. The successful testing paves the way for the engine's integration into the new VLOC.
