Yang Ming, a Taiwanese container line, has confirmed a new shipbuilding agreement with the Korean shipyard Hanwha Ocean. The contract is for six container vessels, each with a capacity of 13,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU).
According to a statement from Yang Ming, these new ships will be equipped with LNG dual-fuel capabilities. The delivery of these vessels is anticipated to occur between the years 2028 and 2029.
The container line indicated that the new fleet is intended to operate on significant east-west trade routes, specifically connecting Asia with the Americas and the Mediterranean region.
Yang Ming also stated that the vessels will incorporate various energy-saving technologies. These include wind shields, rudder bulbs, and pre-swirl stators, designed to enhance operational efficiency.
Additionally, the ships will feature shore power systems and advanced cybersecurity measures. The company also mentioned that the vessels will be prepared for future ammonia fuel use.
